Halloween 2008 Glow Trip Tour of the Haunted Cave

It's been my tradition for several years now to celebrate my birthday, October 29th, by taking advantage of perfectly timed Halloween events and getting the crap scared out of me. I do enjoy it. There's an awesome adrenaline rush and it's so fun to get chased by big men with chainsaws, right? We all love that, right? Hee hee.

Well I was very worried this year because I could not find any haunted houses/cornfields/forests/etc around the State College area that were supposed to be scary. Plenty aimed at little kids, but none that were supposed to be spook-tacularly scary. I did eventually find out about a Haunted Granary which looked promising, but it was the weekend before Halloween and I did not have my act together inviting and organizing yet so I missed it and resigned myself to not celebrating in my preferred manner this year, sigh…

Fortunately a friend came through and we went to a haunted cave. This particular cave is one you go through by boat, so the possibilities for getting scared are both challenged and heightened by the presence of water – harder to sneak up on you but think of all the creepy things that could be in the water… Muh wah ha ha haaaaaaa…

It turned out to be very tame, but fun. The boat ride was cool. The anticipation of scary stuff was cool. The cave was cool. All in all, though I definitely did not get my super spooky scared to death birthday adrenaline rush, it was still a great evening.

The house belonging to the cave caretakers all decorated for Halloween…

They had some nice jack-o-lanterns decorating the pathways…

Barrack was there selling tickets. Nice to see he was in the holiday spirit too..

Group photo… the bear looks like it' going to pounce on someone…

Inside the cave… the first is our ghostly looking clown tour guide, the second is a lit part of the cave where someone was drumming and singing native-american style. He was pretty good, I was impressed. Not scary though. According to the tour guide, the native americans used the cave for a variety of reasons and they are still finding artifacts today.

I kept trying to get some interesting shots of the cave, lighting, water, and formations but failed miserably. Boo. But here are some lovely dark shots of nothing for you to enjoy.

Glow sticks look cool though…

And finally, this made the evening perfect for so many reasons… A decoration at the little tavern we went to afterwards… I realized later that I missed the money-shot. I should have posed with the head with the same vacuous stare or I should have held the sign. Ah well…

Correct. Anyone got one I can borrow?

If you are afraid of clowns, do not read.

heh heh…
How's that for an opener?
But, alas, it's true. Don't say I didn't warn you.
This is for all the Halloween lovers out there. I have desktop/screensaver collections based around the seasons and holidays. I thought it would be fun to share some of the photos.
Eek!

My Halloween Personality

What Your Halloween Habits Say About You

You're a friendly person, but not the life of the party. You like making someone else's day – and you'll dress up if you think of a really fun costume.

No one quite understands you, but everyone also sort of worships you. And that's exactly how you like it.

Your inner child is stubborn and a bit bossy.

Your fears are irrational and varied. It's hard to predict what you may be afraid of on any given day.

You're prone to be quite emotional and over dramatic. Deep down, you enjoy being scared out of your mind… even if you don't admit it.

You are a traditionalist with most aspects of your life. You like your Halloween costume to be basic, well made, and conventional enough to wear another year.

What kind of Halloween Personality are you?
